The USSOCOM version of the MK23 came paired with a laser aiming module (LAM) and suppressor. The USSOCOM MK23 was adopted by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for special operations units, beating out the nearest competitor, Colt's OHWS. Development of the pistol began in 1991 as special operations representatives identified the need for an "Offensive Handgun Weapons System—Special Operations Peculiar", and delivery of the pistols began in May 1996 to the special operation units.

The Mk 23 was built to conform to very stringent accuracy and reliability requirements set by the US SOCOM (Special Operations COMmand). While it met the accuracy and reliability goals, operators in the field despised the Mark 23 for its poor ergonomics, enormous size and heavy weight (the weapon is a foot and a half long with the suppressor fitted and the full system weighs five pounds, as much as an unloaded MP5 or three loaded 9mm Glocks); they tended to never be checked out, and most in SOCOM service spent peaceful careers sitting in armory gun racks, ultimately being replaced by the smaller and lighter USP Tactical. American troops have nicknamed the Mk 23 "The World's Only Crew-Served Pistol"

The included LAM can be attached to the MK23 proprietary under-rail that is integrated with the frame. The LAM unit itself is perfect for cosplay as it also features a white LED light for the Flashlight, and a Red LED Light to simulate the laser!
